24-year-old daughter cuts parents off before her wedding after years of favoritism towards her entitled older sister, parents refuse to back down: ‘They claim they were loving parents’

Usually, good parents don't really need to convince their children that they are good parents. Usually, children decide based on their own experiences if their parents did a good job. And if a parent finds themselves trying to plead their case in front of their children, and insist that they did a good job raising them, that is probably not a good sign of their success. 

Since many adults will admit that their parents weren't so successful at being parents, there are also plenty of parents who would insist the exact opposite. "What do you mean we weren't good parents to you? We gave you everything you possibly needed, we did everything right, you're so ungrateful, yada, yada…", you get the idea, don't you?

The question is, should one keep putting up with parents like these past the required age? If a parent hasn't done their job well, do the child owe them anything? Do they owe them an adult relationship?

If you ask the 24-year-old daughter in the story below, she would have told you that for years, she thought she had to keep up her relationship with her horrible family. Even though her sister was awful to her throughout their entire childhood, and their parents never took her side, she still gave them the benefit of the doubt. She still tried to do good by them, even though they never did the same.

Now, however, she is a full-grown adult, with a fiancé and a life of her own. Still. her sister treats her like garbage, and her parents couldn't care less, and she finally decided she had had enough. With the support of her partner, the young daughter cut off her parents and sister, even if it means they will not attend the wedding. And while it didn't seem to bother her sister much, Mom is not pleased with her daughter's decision to keep her out of her life.

  • TinLydElli If you keep them in your life your sister will try to ruin your wedding & your parents will help her. Cut them off. Block them & anyone that fights their corner. Have a wonderful life with your fiancé & build a new family. I say this as someone who has finally cut their siblings & parents out too. I am in my 40's but wish I'd done it in my 20's before they ruined so many special days for me.
